Renting a Dumpster in Winter Around Richmond

October 14, 2026 · Seasons

Winter is the slow season in the dumpster business, and that works in your favor. The spring rush around Richmond starts when the weather breaks in March, and from then through summer everybody's clearing, building and tearing off at once. In January, scheduling is about as flexible as it gets, which makes the cold months a genuinely good time for indoor projects: clearing a basement, gutting a bathroom, working through an estate.

Cold weather changes a few practical things. Frozen ground is actually kinder to your yard than spring mud, so if the dumpster has to sit somewhere other than pavement, winter is the season for it. Snow is the thing to plan around: the truck needs a plowed, passable approach to back in, so if it snows before delivery day, clear the spot and the path to it the way you'd clear it for a delivery truck.

One thing worth knowing about wet and frozen loads. For a normal household or remodel load it changes nothing, because ordinary debris is a flat rate no matter what it weighs. Where moisture matters is heavy material, concrete, dirt, shingles, and plaster and lath, which bill off the scale ticket past the included 1,000 pounds. Snow and ice in an open dumpster is added weight on that ticket, so on a winter roof job or a plaster tear-out, throwing a tarp over the load is worth the five minutes.

The rates don't change with the season. The 12-yard runs $295 to $375 and the 16-yard $325 to $425, all-in, same as July. Call or text (765) 238-1393, Monday to Saturday, 8 to 5, and if the forecast looks ugly around your delivery day, say so and Jeff will plan around it.
