Start with the part most companies bury: on a normal load, there is no weight billing at J's Dumpster Rentals Dumpster Rentals. Household junk, furniture, drywall, cabinets, carpet, remodel debris, all of it rides at the published flat rate, $295 to $425 depending on the size and the days, with no tonnage math anywhere on the invoice. If your load is ordinary, the number you saw on the pricing page is the number you pay.
Weight billing only exists for four materials: concrete, dirt, shingles, and plaster and lath. Those include 1,000 pounds in the rental, and past that it's $50 per ton. They also go in the 12-yard only, never the 16, because dense material reaches the trailer's legal road weight long before it fills a tall wall.
Here's the part that makes it fair. The overage isn't estimated, eyeballed, or rounded up. When Jeff dumps the load, the landfill weighs it on a certified scale and prints a ticket. That ticket is what your bill comes off. A 2,400-pound shingle load is 1,000 included plus 1,400 over, which is 0.7 tons, which is $35. You can do the math on your own receipt.
The other honest half is that Jeff screens for this up front. His first question on every call is what's your project, and if the answer involves a roof, a patio, or old plaster walls, you'll hear the full weight arrangement before anything is booked. That's why the surprise invoice basically doesn't happen here. The surprise invoice is what this system exists to prevent.
If you're not sure whether your load counts as heavy, describe it. Call or text (765) 238-1393, or read the heavy material page for the long version.
